Oba Olatunji Fayemi Becomes 1st Onitedo of Mahintedo

At a colourful ceremony in Mahintedo on Friday, Oba Olatunji Fayemi was presented the instrument of appointment and staff of office, making him the first Onitedo of Mahintedo in Ilaje council area of Ondo state.

Oba Fayemi became king following the recommendations of the Justice C.E.T Ajama Commission of Inquiry on Cheiftaincy matters and subsequent approval of the Onitedo Kingship stool by the Ondo state government on December 9, 2024.

Performing the official ceremony, the governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, congratulated the people of Mahintedo for having the first officially recognized Oba.

He said, “While rejoicing with Kabiyesi on this well-deserved recognition, it is my prayer that God Almighty will endow you with the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to lead your people rightly in the enormous task of traditional leadership”.

The governor tasked the newly installed monarch to use his authority to bring peace, unity and development to the community.

He thanked the people of Ilaje local government for their overwhelming support in the last governorship election and the just-concluded local government election, promising more development projects across the state.

In his address, permanent secretary of the ministry of local government and chieftancy affairs, Dele Adesanmi, said due process was fully observed in the approval of the Onitedo kingship stool.

Appreciating the state government and the people of the community, the monarch pledged to govern fairly and work with government to bring the needed development to Mahintedo.

In another development, the governor commissioned a cassava processing mill in Mahintedo, a joint project between Ondo state government and the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), that will produce 400kg of garri per day.

He described the landmark project as contributing to food security in the state and one that will positively impact the community.

The governor also laid the foundation for a community market that was facilitated by member representing Ilaje constituency 2 in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu.
