The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo SAN, OON, has expressed strong commendation for the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, over the recent decision by the National Judicial Council (NJC) to invite public input on the selection of candidates for appointment as Judicial Officers to Superior Courts of Record.
Describing the move as “remarkable” and “progressive,” Dr. Ajulo praised the CJN, who also serves as Chairman of the NJC, for advancing transparency and accountability in the judicial appointment process.
“This significant step demonstrates a bold commitment to public engagement. By encouraging comments on the integrity, reputation, and competence of judicial nominees, the NJC is establishing a system that prioritizes accountability and fosters community involvement, while ensuring a selection process that is both rigorous and reflective of the highest values of our legal system.” He said.
The Ondo Attorney General noted that such measures will undoubtedly strengthen public trust in the judiciary and ensure the elevation of only individuals with proven integrity to the bench.
“This initiative signals refreshing leadership and a renewed commitment to excellence within our judiciary,” he added, while also encouraging Nigerians to actively participate in the process.
Dr. Ajulo concluded by reaffirming his support for the CJN’s efforts and urged the public to use this opportunity responsibly to contribute to a fair, credible, and trusted judicial system.
