Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has pledged to revolutionize agriculture by introducing modern-day techniques and facilitating access to loans for farmers.
This commitment comes as part of his administration’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure the prosperity of farming communities across the state.
The assurance was given by the Governor during his meeting with leaders of the Ondo State Farmers’ Congress, on Tuesday at the Governor’s office in Akure, where he was bestowed with the title of Grand Patron of the congress.
The Governor said: “Agriculture serves as a cornerstone of our economy, and any administration that neglects the farming community risks its own downfall. Farming transcends individual interests, it is a collective endeavor that impacts us all.
“Reflecting on my own childhood experiences, I recall the weekly fishing outings mandated during my primary school years. Every Wednesday at noon, we were required to participate, with the class boasting the highest fish count and receiving recognition. This activity instilled in us a profound appreciation for agriculture and underscored its significance.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his dedication to promoting agriculture as a key driver of economic development and pledged to work tirelessly to fulfill his promises to the farming communities in the State.
“As Governor, I stand in solidarity with farmers, recognizing their pivotal role in our society. Our administration is committed to creating an enabling environment conducive to farming activities. We will explore various avenues to provide additional support to farmers, including expanding access to loans beyond the existing schemes currently available. By prioritizing the needs of farmers and fostering collaboration between government agencies and agricultural stakeholders, we aim to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure sustainable growth in this vital sector.”
The delegation of farmers conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering support and commitment to the agricultural sector.
Led by Mr. Monilari Abayomi, President of the Ondo State Farmers’ Congress, the group commended the Governor’s proactive efforts in advancing agriculture within the state.
During the visit, Mr. Abayomi highlighted the significance of modern farming technologies, access to market opportunities, and infrastructural development in rural areas.
He commended the Governor’s initiatives aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in the State and emphasized the need for continued partnership between the government and farmers to cultivate a prosperous future for the state.
Mr. Abayomi also hailed the Governor on the ongoing road construction projects connecting urban centers to agricultural communities in Ondo State, recognizing their potential to facilitate seamless transportation of farm produce to markets.
