- As Gov Aiyedatiwa approves new water, sanitation projects
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called for the support and cooperation of residents, security agencies, and other stakeholders as the construction and channelization of water supply projects begin across the State.
The Governor made this appeal during a stakeholders meeting in Akure on Tuesday, where he addressed the urban water reform and Akure water supply and sanitation project.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that in addition to providing clean water, the project aims to create job opportunities for skilled workers and enhance sanitation.
The Governor said: “This project is not just about providing clean water but also about transforming our state. We need the support of every resident and stakeholder to make this initiative successful. It’s a comprehensive effort that aims to improve hygiene and create job opportunities.
“We are also installing modern toilet facilities in strategic locations, as we aim to promote better hygiene and make our state more beautiful”.
Earlier in his welcome, Mr. Sunday Akinwalire, Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation, and Hygiene, commended the Governor’s commitment towards the provision of potable water to the people of the State.
He said: “For over 30 years, the issue of inadequate potable water supply has plagued our communities. Today, with the governor’s approval, we are finally addressing this problem head-on. This project will significantly improve the quality of life for our people.
“Our goal is to provide access to clean water for 500,000 households and approximately 2 million individuals. This is a monumental task, but it is one we are ready to undertake.”
The Technical Consultant to the project, Mr. Kehinde Adebayo, outlined the project’s technical aspects: “We will be repairing and revitalizing all previously abandoned mechanical equipment, treatment plants, storage facilities, and pipelines. This comprehensive approach will ensure that we have a reliable and efficient water supply system.”
Comrade Solomon Adelegan, the Chairman of the Grievance and Dispute Committee, assured the public, saying “We have reached out to all affected individuals and structures in the project areas. We are working closely with them to ensure a smooth commencement and minimize any disruptions.”
