ONDO ASSEMBLY GETS NEW DEPUTY SPEAKER AS AKINRUNTAN, OGUNMOLASUYI STEP DOWN.

The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt-Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan has tendered his resignation before the house at plenary on 3rd June, 2025 and was replaced by the member representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, Hon. Ololade Gbegudu.

The resignation letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt-Hon. Olamide Oladiji and read by the Clerk of the Assembly, Barr. Benjamin Jaiyeola before the whole house today.

Hon. Akinruntan in the letter stated that due to the power sharing of positions to the principal officers by the government warranted his resignation.

Recall that Rt. Hon Abayomi Akinruntan represented the Ilaje Constituency 1 in the house from 2019 to present date.

Meanwhile, a member representing Akoko North-East, Hon. Oluwatoyin Japeth nominated, Hon. Ololade Gbegudu and was seconded by the Hon.Chris Aiyebusiwa, a member representing Okitipupa Constituency 1.

Hon. Ololade Gbegudu later took the oath of office which was conducted by the Clerk of the house, Barr. Jaiyeola.

Hon. Gbegudu while speaking appreciated the speaker of the house and other members for their maturity for the peaceful principal officers shake up, he promised to work cordially with the speaker of the house and to also help in moving the state forward economically.

Earlier, the Ondo State House of Assembly Majority leader Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi stepped down from his position and was replaced by the former house spokesperson Hon. Olatunji Oshati as the new Majority leader of the house.

The development came up during the plenary of the house presided over by the Speaker of the house, Rt-Hon. Olamide Oladiji.

In his speech, Hon. Oshati appreciated the house speaker and other honorable members for trusting and finding him worthy of the position.

Also, he thanked the media team for supporting him when he was the spokesperson of the house during the 10th Assembly.

In an interview, the former spokesperson of the house and the current majority leader, Hon. Olatunji Oshati said the transition of the principal officers in the house was done in a peaceful manner and unity.

He added that the shake up was done in the interest of the state and balancing of power at the senatorial district and assured people of the State to expect great transformation.

Consequently, there was a shake-up among the principal officers of the House with Hon. Murtala Mohammed represented Akoko South-East, appointed as the new Chief Whip, replacing Babatunde Fasonu from Odigbo Constituency 2.

Also, Hon. Ifabiyi Olatunji from Odigbo Constituency 1 has been appointed as the new Whip, while the new Deputy Parliamentary Secretary is Hon. Oluwatoyin Allen representing Ese odo,replacing Hon. Ololade Gbegudu who is now the Deputy Speaker.

However, the speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly congratulated the Ondo State Governor on his 100 days in Office.
