Participants at a youth leadership clinic in Ondo state have been charged to avoid distractions and remain focused in the pursuit of their educational and life goals.
Admonishing the youths, mostly students of secondary schools in Akure, on Tuesday, the governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said “I am thrilled by the concept of the leadership program”
The program, Youth Leaders Clinic, is an initiative of the Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, encouraged the young people to equip themselves with skills needed for leadership positions.
“To prepare yourselves for leadership positions, you must start by doing the right thing at all times and this will naturally attract organic followers who will ask you to come and lead them.
“Leadership is not forced but earned. A leader is someone who inspires and motivates others to achieve a common goal. So remain focused” the governor advised the participants.
He said his administration is taking steps to shape the future of the young people in the state.
“As a government, we recognize the importance of nurturing our youths in the state. This is why we empowered 20 budding entrepreneurs with startup capital and tools, a few days ago. We are also hosting a youth empowerment retreat in the coming weeks” the governor disclosed.
Remarking, Representative of the Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja and the Director Abuja Leadership Centre, Prof Adewale Banjo, asked the young leaders to devout more time to acquiring quality education and emulate good leaders in the society.
He thanked the governor for gracing the event and providing quality leadership for youths in the state.
The state commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr Rasaq Obe, tasked the young leaders to strive for excellence and improve on their skills.
