An exceptionally ecstatic crowd of men, women and young people, on Friday, thronged the palace of Ohinoyi of Ebira in Owo, Isa Ahmed, to welcome Ondo state deputy governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, to their community.
“He is our son, in whom we are well pleased” the Ohinoyi spoke glowingly of Adelami, as he described Governor Aiyedatiwa as a de-tribalised leader who has been fair to all, regardless of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
The traditional leader declared that they are united behind the governor and his deputy, saying “yours is a victory ticket”
Chanting in his native language, the Ohinoyi prayed for the success of the November 16, 2024 governorship election in the state, and the victory of the governor. He also prayed for peace and unity after the election.
Isa Onimisi, who is the mouthpiece of the community, assured the deputy governor of an overwhelming support in the forthcoming election.
He described as “divine”, the choice of Adelami as the APC running mate.
Onimisi said the Ebira people are predominantly farmers, who have been contributing greatly to food security in the state. He asked for more representation in government.
Appreciating the kind gesture, Adelami, accompanied by top APC leaders in Owo, delivered the governor’s message to the community, applauding them for coming out en masse to welcome him.
“Growing up in Owo, I had a lot friends who are Ebira people, who even lived in the same house with us. At a point, I became very fluent in the language. We have a long history together and I urge you to sustain that” He said.
He further stated that the state government will soon roll out new programmes in the agriculture sector that will benefit every player in the value chain, adding that the Ebira people are a key part of Aiyedatiwa’s government.
“Top on the agenda of Mr Governor is food security and we are pursuing it with a lot of commitment. We have programmes for every socio-economic category in the society. We need your unreserved cooperation.
“This overwhelming support speaks volume and we will never take it for granted. I will go back home and report to my principal all that I have seen here” Adelami submitted.
