Ajayi Agboola Alfred

Early Life

Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi was born on 24th September, 1968, into the famous family of Chief Newton Ajayi in Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government of Ondo State and Mrs. Rebecca Ogunjinte [nee Olubusade], a Princess from Ondo Kingdom.


Agboola had his elementary education at Kiribo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area. He started his secondary education at Community High School, also at Kiribo and later proceeded to Methodist High School, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

In his unending quest for knowledge, he had his university education at the Igbinedion University, Okada in Edo State where he bagged, Bachelor of Law [LL.B] [Second Class Upper Division]. He was called to bar in 2010 after his graduation from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja.

Personal Life and Family

Owing to his numerous activities and contributions to the welfare of his people and his exemplary leadership qualities, Agboola became the chairman of the Social Democratic Party [SDP] in the Old Apoi Ward 1 between 1988 and 1992. He stirred the wheel of the party so perfectly and transparently that he gained the trust of his people. His political activities caught the attention of his people so much that he was the unanimous choice of eminent leaders when the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] was formed in 1998. He was made the Secretary of PDP Ilaje/Ese-Odo local government between 1998 and 1999.

Agboola’s performance impressed some leaders both in the party and his community, making him a major determinant of socio-political issues in the southern senatorial district of Ondo State. From the days of the Social Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party and now All Progressive Congress, Agboola Ajayi had always enjoyed the solid support of his people.

Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi, a passionate husband and father is married with children. His hobbies include sports development, traveling, meeting people and intellectual discourse


Agboola Ajayi, a lawyer and successful businessman had served on the board of many blue-chip and multinational companies.

Political Career

Agboola Ajayi’s service to the people began with his appointment as a supervisor for Agriculture for Ese-Odo Local Government between 1999 and 2001. In furtherance to the recognition of his excellent performance between 1999 and 2001, he was appointed again as supervisor for Works and Transport for Ese-Odo Local Government between 2001 and 2003.

This was the needed springboard for higher responsibilities as his unprecedented feat in office earned him his appointment as the caretaker Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government between 2003 and 2004. This was later to be crowned within a few months as he sought the Chairmanship of Council.

Hence, Agboola’s victory in the 2004 Election as the democratically elected Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government can be described as the reward for his selfless and humanitarian services to his people. He served selflessly and meritoriously as the chairman of Ese-Odo local government between 2004 and 2007. His uprightness, trustworthiness and accountability was appreciated by his colleagues, he was made Treasurer of Association of Local Government of Nigeria [ALGON], Ondo State chapter between 2004 and 2007.

Not coming as a surprise to many, Agboola’s political journey took another dramatic turn in 2007, when he was elected to the Federal House of Representatives to represent the good people of Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency. To his people and teeming supporters which included political leaders, his former colleagues and party faithful, it was time to reward him with a higher position for a masses-focused service.

While at the National Assembly, Agboola Alfred Ajayi served as the chairman House Committee on NDDC between 2007 and 2010. He was also a member of various committees, which include House Committee on Gas, House Committee on Habitat, House Committee on Justice and House Committee on Industry between 2007 and 2011.

Due to his political ideology and his passion for Change Mantra, Agboola Ajayi joined the All Progressives Congress out of his burning desire to be part of the change agents in this state. He later became the running mate of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, in the November 26, 2016 governorship election where the people of the sunshine state voted massively for the APC.

It is on record that the election that brought Arakunrin Akeredolu and Hon. Agboola Ajayi was adjudged the best and most credible in the political history of Nigeria as its outcome was not contested at the Tribunal.

On February 24, 2017, Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi alongside his boss, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, was sworn-in.

A dedicated community leader, kind-hearted philanthropist, compassionate, humanitarian, astute politician and a role model to this generation, Agboola has had considerable positive impact on the people of his community and the state at large.


In his recognition of his noble gestures, several organization and communities within and outside Ondo State have honoured Alfred Agboola Ajayi with one award or the other.

Worthy of mention among different awards that have been conferred on Hon. Agboola Ajayi to celebrate his excellent leadership qualities are;

  • Award of Excellence for best Local Government Administration in Ondo State 2005.
  • Merit award for an Outstanding Leadership 2006
  • Distinguished Merit Award for Philanthropy 2008
  • Patron, Apoi Students’ Association
  • Chieftaincy Title of Otuna Mayeigun of Apoiland
  • The Aare Bobaselu of Ugboland
