Akeredolu Advocates Community Policing
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN has described community policing as the best security strategy to tackle the current security challenges in the country. The Governor, who commended the police authorities for establishing three Police Area Commands in Ondo State, disclosed that the three newly-established Area Commands in Ikare, Oba-ile and Okitipupa have further improved the security of lives and property in the State. Governor Akeredolu spoke while playing host to the Deputy Inspector General ofPolice, Zone 11, Mr Oshodi Glover, who was in his office Wednesday in Akure on a courtesy visit. Governor Akeredolu used the occasion to endorse the Community Policing Strategy of the Nigeria Police, noted that the strategy was the best approach for effective collaboration with local communities across the country to achieve adequate security. The Governor congratulated Oshodi on his promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, describing him as a diligent and hardworking officer whose tenure as AIG in the zone would be remembered for his professional disposition, which according to the Governor, culminated into the effective policing of the State. Earlier, Mr Glover had informed the Governor of his promotion and subsequent transfer from the Zone, saying the development made it mandatory for him to come and appreciate the Governor for his cooperation with the police. The DIG noted with satisfaction that the collaboration between the police and Ondo State Government under Governor Akeredolu has resulted in Ondo State being the most peaceful state in the entire zone. The new DIG was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, while the Secretary to the State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo and the Chief of Protocol to the Governor, Tosin Ogunbodede, Esq. joined the Governor to receive the visitors.
