Put off electric appliances before leaving stores, Ajayi advises traders
The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, with the officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Friday evening paid a visit to the Erekesan Market in Akure, the state capital, where about 20 shops loaded with goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by inferno
The ugly incident, which started around 2.am on Friday, was said to have been caused by power surge after an electrical spark emanated from one of the shops in the Complex.
Though no life was lost, but most of the stores destroyed were those of wine and beverage sellers.
The traders lamented that the power surge had dashed their hope.
Ajayi, who sympathised with the victims, urged traders to always ensure they put off their electric appliances before leaving their stores for their various homes.
“As a responsive government, we will continue to play our role. It is a pity this incident occurred again in this market . You will recall that government distributed some money to traders, whose good and shops were affected by inferno in this market recently.
“Also, those traders affected by the gas explosion at Onyerubulem Junction will soon be given some cash too.“Let me assure you that we will continue to provide succour to our people. But let me appeal to our traders to always ensure they switch off their electric appliances before leaving their shops”, the Deputy Governor said.
