2018 WORLD AIDS DAY: ODSG committed to HIV/AIDS prevention, says Akeredolu
The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Saturday assured the people of the state of his administration commitment to the prevention, control and impact mitigation of HIV/AIDS in the state.
Akeredolu stated this at the 2018 World AIDS Day celebration, held at the Gate of the Government House in Akure, State Capital.
The event organised by Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS ( ODSACA) and headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde has “KNOW YOUR STATUS” as the theme for this year celebration.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, said his government would continue to fund awareness and mobilisation campaign programmes that intends to reduce HIV to its barest minimum in the state.
He also said the plight of people living with HIV is a major concern of of his administration, stressing that one of the way to reduce stigmatisation and discrimination is to help people infected to live positively and meaningfully.
Akeredolu disclosed that his government through the ODSACA recently embarked on a project to provide nutritional and financial support to 600 people living with HIV.
He however promised that the government would continue to partner with Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders in order to make the state HIV/AIDS competent.
