Akure to Witness a Rebirth of Urban Development
The Ondo state government is ensuring that urban renewal is
reemphasized at the state capital as parts of efforts towards proper planning
of the environment with recourse to physical planning rules.
Preceding the commencement of dualisation at Oba Osupa road ( from Esso
junction to NEPA roundabout), the Commissionerfor Physical Planning and Urban
Development Prince Solagbade Amodeni with the enforcement squad of his ministry
and some dialisation committee members Mr Taofeek Abdusalam – Commissioner for
works, Engr Raimi Aminu -S.S.A Infrastructure and Lands, and the Permanent
Secretary Engr Otun and others were at the site to monitor and ensure the
demolition of ilegal attachments and eave projections.
Speaking to journalist Prince Amodeni said the removal of these eave
projections and illegal structures must precede this dualisation exercise.
‘These illegal attachments have for long defaced the state capital and in this
process of urban renewal, things must be done right, this time’ , he said.
He added that the ministry of works that is in charge of dualisation has sensitized relevant stakeholders and made provision for compensation for the demolition of legal and approved structures.
However, the Commissioner reemphasized that the removal and demolition of these illegal structures and attachments will not attract any form of compensation.
Speaking on the relocation order given to auto dealers operatig in unapproved places, he promised that the ministry is not tired and will visit them soon, but this time, the full weight of the law will be applied.
